Dear St. Andrew’s Church Family,
4 But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, 5 to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship.6 Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, ‘Abba, Father.’ (Galatians 4:4-6 NIV)
We are just about to enter the Advent season. In theological circles, there is something known as “the Great Exchange”. Basically, it goes like this. God comes down from heaven and becomes a human being. He goes through life, the cross and the resurrection. He gives his life as an exchange so that we as his children, can be brought into his presence, up above, and become like him. He comes down and brings us up to be with him, as children of God. This great exchange tells us why the Advent season and Christmas Day are important. We celebrate the first step of this great exchange which is the step of God becoming a human being.
Attached is my Christmas pastoral letter which includes the Advent series of events. Advent is a time for many people to ponder where their lives are heading and where they belong. Perhaps this is an opportunity to invite them to an Advent event at St. Andrew’s Streetsville. Please also pick your paper copy up after the service this Sunday November 26.
